Take your media-making skills to the next level, and learn what it’s like to write, direct, and edit a film in a professional environment. This semester-long immersion is an opportunity to see a short (4–10 minute) project through from concept to festival-ready submission. The class works collaboratively on one group project, including pitching and developing ideas, script-writing, story-boarding, cinematography, lighting, sound, and editing with Adobe Premiere Pro CC. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.

Nonmembers will be charged a $20 registration fee.

POUGHKEEPSIE- Portfolio in Media Arts with The Art Effect @ PUF Studios

POUGHKEEPSIE- Portfolio in Media Arts with The Art Effect @ PUF Studios

(The Art Effect is formerly Mill Street Loft & Spark Media Project)

Modeled after college level foundation courses in film-making, in this course students construct a short film demonstrating their personal voice that can be used in applying to colleges, residencies or internships. Lessons in scripting, directing actors, set design, lighting techniques, sound mixing, editing, film critique and more will help students build a fine control and understanding of mis en scène, film-making aesthetics, soundscapes and audio motifs, montage and juxtaposition, and the relationship between creator and audience. Class time will focus on discussing major techniques in film-making and critical feedback on student’s assignments from the teacher. Students should expect to do a devote a large portion of time outside of the classroom as they will have weekly assignments to complete such as shooting scenes, writing scripts, watching tutorials and reviewing films.

PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED

Kyle Bahl is a Hudson Valley-born filmmaker. He’s a graduate of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas who’s been working professionally in the film industry for a decade. His previous clients include Full Tilt Poker, Reebok & Google. Kyle has written and directed several short films. His original 10-minute play ‘1403’ was performed at multiple theatres in New York City. Kyle also has vast experience in improvisational theater. Prior to his time here at The Art Effect, he worked with children and teens in an after school improv group to help teach them life skills. He’s thrilled to integrate his love of storytelling, media, and education in his work at The Art Effect and Forge Media.

The Art Effect empowers youth in the Hudson Valley through the arts and media. Our programming sequence supports the personal and professional development of youth and provides them with the tools and support necessary to explore the arts, gain meaningful experiences, and eventually excel in their chosen tracks.
